Founded in the year 1849, St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is the oldest benevolent organization in the State of Michigan.
Our mission is to provide assistance to fellow Scots and to encourage the love of Scotland through its history, customs, music, literature and national games.

Let’s celebrate together and worldwide! The St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit is celebrating its 175th year throughout 2024. As a gift to ourselves, to you, and St. Andrew’s Societies worldwide, The St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit developed this free, needed St. Andrew’s Societies’ Directory. A quick internet search displays a number of societies, but a complete listing apparently doesn’t exist. This site aims to remedy that problem.
A planning meeting for the St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit’s 175th Anniversary served as the catalyst for the idea of the creation of this registry. The Detroit Scots (as we are also known) and R3 Web Solutions collaborated to create this website, which is a present to all the other Societies worldwide as well as anyone looking for a St. Andrew’s Society in their area. More St. Andrew’s Societies will be added. Check your St. Andrew’s Society information in this registry. Our 175th Annual Highland Games will be held on Friday and Saturday, August 2nd and 3rd, 2024.
The Kilgour Scottish Centre is located in Troy, Michigan and is available for rentals to the public for your special event.
Traditional Yearly Events
- Burns’ Night celebrates Robert Burns’ Birthday and is held in January.
- Tartan Day is celebrated with a Cèilidh and is held in April.
- Highland Games are held on the first Saturday in August, with a traditional Cèilidh on Friday night.
- St. Andrew’s Day is celebrated in November or December with a St. Andrew’s Day Ball.
